Sony is once again tweaking the PS5 - and this time it's not just technical refinements, but a comprehensive firmware update. With the new system software update, which will be available from April 24 is being rolled out worldwide, two new features are in the spotlight: the so-called Audio focus and the return of classic console UI customizations. Who thinks now: "Sounds like a small update"has made a mistake - because this is about more than just cosmetic gimmicks.
Better hearing, more intense gaming: The new audio focus
The new function Audio focus is aimed at all those who not only want to see when gaming, but also feel want - with your ears. What's particularly exciting is that this function amplifies specific sound areas according to your preferences. Whether it's booming engine noises, whispering character voices or the soft rustling in the undergrowth - you decide what should be in the foreground.
There are four preset profiles to choose from:
- Boost bass - For all those who want to feel their explosions.
- Amplify voices - So that you don't miss any dialog, even when things are going well in the game.
- Amplify high tone - Ideal for stealth fans who want to hear every crack in the bushes.
- Amplify quiet noises - For subtle audio cues that often make the difference between victory and defeat.
The best thing is that the settings can be adjusted live in the game - simply via the control center. And if you want to be really precise, you can even configure the gain levels separately for the left and right channels. But beware: HDMI users are left out in the cold - Audiofokus only works with headphones via USB or analog connection.
The retro wave is rolling: PS1 to PS4 celebrate a comeback
While Sony usually focuses on futuristic designs, this time it's getting nostalgic: for the 30th anniversary of the PlayStation, fans can revive the look of their favorite old console on the PS5 after they have been given this were taken away after loud criticism. Whether PS1 classic with gray accents or PS2 feeling in cool black - the new UI themes bring retro charm directly to your start screen.
The function is simply called "Display" and can be activated via the settings menu. Originally planned as a time-limited promotion, it is now permanently available due to the positive fan reactions - a real gift to the community.
An update with added value
Instead of just tinkering under the hood, Sony is delivering features with this update that will noticeably improve the everyday life of PS5 users. The audio focus opens up new possibilities for immersive gaming - and the UI update brings a touch of retro romance back into the living room. Anyone who says that system software updates have to be boring hasn't tried this one yet.
