Sony has officially announcedto increase the prices for its PlayStation Plus subscription service in several Latin American countries. From the April 16, 2025 new tariffs apply to all three PS Plus levels - Essential, Extra and Premium. It is unclear whether other regions will follow suit, but it can never be ruled out.

The price increase affects users in a total of 16 Latin American countries, including Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Chile. According to Sony, the adjustment is necessary in order to continue to offer a "high-quality gaming experience". Among other things, global economic conditions are cited to which the company must respond.

Experience in recent years shows: Price adjustments in certain regions are often an early indicator of global changes. Particularly in economically uncertain times like these, Sony is obviously keeping a close eye on where price increases can be implemented first. This is not the first time that Latin America has been used as a testing ground.

For players in other regions - such as Europe or North America - this could be a sign of adjustments to come. Sony is still silent on possible further price changes, but the current development is likely to be followed with interest.

New prices at a glance

The price structure will change as follows:

  • PS Plus Essential:
    • 1 month: 7.99 $
    • 3 months: 20.99 $
    • 12 months: 64.99 $
  • PS Plus Extra:

    • 3 months: 33.99 $
    • 12 months: 107.99 $

    • 1 month: 13.99 $
    • 3 months: 39.99 $
    • 12 months: 124.99 $

These tariffs apply to users in the following countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.

PlayStation Plus games in April 2025

Parallel to the announcement of the price increase, Sony has also the games lineup for April announced. Particularly interesting: the range of games for Latin America corresponds to that of the USA, which was not always a given.

Three titles await players in the PS Plus Essential program:

  • RoboCop: Rogue City
  • The Texas Chain Saw Massacre
  • Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory

These games are available throughout April and leave the service on May 5, 2025.

For Extra and Premium subscribers there are also games like Blue Prince, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage Tape 2, EA Sports PGA Tour, Battlefield 1 and PlateUp! which will be activated from next week. Two classics are also available exclusively for Premium users: Alone in the Dark 2 and War of the Monsters.

The price increase may not be very pleasing for many, but Sony is sticking to its guns: it continues to promise a "high-quality gaming experience" and regularly adds attractive content to the service. Players will have to decide for themselves whether this justifies the higher price - especially as the new game line-up in April is certainly strong.
