Sometimes all it takes is a single wooden picture to set the internet on fire - or at least the Resident Evil-community. While Capcom recently released a video to thank the 10 million players of the Resident Evil 4 Remakes it wasn't the "thank you" that got people talking, but a few inconspicuous boards in the background. To be more precise: three wooden frames, arranged horizontally - and for many fans an unmistakable reference to Resident Evil IXpart 9 of the cult horror series.

Wooden frame as a puzzle: a teaser or just decoration?

The attentive community, which has shone with an astonishing hit rate in the past, discovered the "IX" pattern first to X and triggered a tsunami of speculation. It's not the first time Capcom has played with hidden clues - just think of the subtle teasers for Resident Evil Villagethat were circulating the web months before the official unveiling. This time, however, it's wood. Lots of wood.

The "IX" structure didn't just appear once recently, but crept through the scene almost stealthily - as a sign, a nameplate and even as decor. But the real highlight comes towards the end of the video, when the wooden frames appear in their full glory, right next to the RE4 logo, accompanied by the message "Thank You For Playing". A simple thank you for the loyal players or a secret hint of the horror to come? Who knows, maybe Capcom is just grinning at us while we grope in the dark. Admittedly: For a simple signpost, the arrangement is rather unusual.

Rumors about Resident Evil 9 have been circulating for months

Rumors about Resident Evil 9 have been circulating for some time. According to a leaker, the next chapter of survival horror set on a mysterious island somewhere in the Southeast Asian seawith influences from Singapore. So exoticism meets horror, and it will be interesting to see how Capcom transforms the tropical paradise into a nightmarish scenario. The game is scheduled for release in 2025 at the earliest - so now is the perfect time for a first wink.

Of course Capcom remains silent. No official word, no press release, no concrete announcement. And yet: the wooden frames say more than a thousand words - at least for die-hards Resident Evil-fans who examine every pixel for hidden messages.

Whether we are really seeing the first, cleverly hidden teaser for Resident Evil 9 remains speculation for the time being. But if Capcom is really playing with expectations like this, then the horror has already begun - just very quietly, between the lines and the bars.

What do you think: a real clue or pure wishful thinking? The horror continues - perhaps soon.
