Anyone who thought the wild hordes of Days Gone would have been nasty in the original version, can now dress warmly. With Days Gone Remasteredwhich was published on April 25, 2025 for PS5 and PS5 Pro, Bend Studio is not only bringing fancy tech updates, but also a brand new mode that puts you in the hot seat of the apocalypse: Horde Assault. And yes - the name says it all.
Survival was yesterday - now it's time to score
Horde Assault is not a classic story modeNo relaxed cruising through the zombie-infested open world. Instead, you are thrown into an arena that changes dynamically, while up to 800 Freakers (and their mutated friends) make life a living hell. Your goal? To survive as long as possible, complete side tasks and push your high score to unimagined heights.
Starting pointYou have a gun and a plan - and it's called "Survive long enough to reach your bike". After that, the real hell on earth begins.
The great strength of the new mode lies in its mixture of arcade addiction factor and merciless survival stress. You don't just get weapons - you have to find them. Randomly generated supply crates can save the day or spell your doom. Especially cool: The new flamethrower, which is exclusively available in Horde mode. Flame a Freaker? Check.
Another feature is side quests, which not only earn you additional XP, but also secure your supply situation. Ammunition is scarce, and when a Freaker horde chases you across the map, you'll wish you had every bullet you wasted back.
Injectors with brains and hooks
Special attention is paid to the new injectors, of which there are 24 - 12 positive, 12 negative. Sounds logical at first: positive injectors increase your score, but make the game more difficult. Negative ones? Lower your score, but make you stronger. An example: The "Explosion Freaker" injector ensures that enemies explode when they die - which can be worth its weight in gold tactically. "Wanted", on the other hand, takes you straight to heat level Max - not for the faint-hearted.
Horde Assault is not a mode you can play once and tick off. With 35 reward levels, six new playable characters (including Skizzo and Lisa), cosmetic patches and an unnamed bike gimmick, the mode is still motivating even after hours.
And yes, if you missed the 2019 challenges - they're back. This time visually, not functionally. But hey, a patch on your jacket that survived your last 30-minute marathon? That's more than just decoration. Horde Assault is the freak show that Days Gone deserved
Days Gone Remastered delivers with Horde Assault is not just a new mode, but a real endgame monster. Those who love the apocalyptic world will get the ultimate adrenaline rush here - with rewards, challenges and a depth of gameplay that rivals many a roguelike.
Pre-order from Days Gone Remastered can also look forward to new avatars and five early unlocks for the main game.
