Fans of Borderlands 4 are eagerly awaiting an exact release date, but so far developer Gearbox Software has kept a low profile. Now there is finally some new information - but not from Gearbox itself, but from Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of publisher 2K.
Almost two months have passed since Borderlands 4 was officially unveiled. Since then, there has been neither a second trailer nor a concrete announcement regarding the release date. So far, it is only known that the game will be released sometime this year for PC, PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. However, Take-Two has now made a decisive statement that further narrows down the possible release period.
GTA 6 determines the fate of Borderlands 4
According to Take-Two Grand Theft Auto 6 before Borderlands 4 appear. Why is this important? Quite simply: GTA 6 is scheduled for fall 2025 come onto the market. This means that Borderlands 4 will be released after mid or late fall at the earliest. Take-Two has already emphasized that they want to spread out their major releases over time - so they are unlikely to launch two blockbusters at the same time.
With this new information, it seems pretty certain that Borderlands 4 won't be released until fall 2025, or even 2026 if things go very wrong. GTA 6 should be postponed once again. A release in November would be obvious - but it could possibly also be December if Take-Two deviates from its previous release strategy.
However, a big December release would be unusual. AAA games of this size rarely appear in this month, as many publishers no longer consider the Christmas period to be the ideal time for new titles. In addition, Take-Two has hardly any experience with December releases.
Soon Unveiling promised
Take-Two Interactive has announced that Borderlands 4 will be presented in more detail "soon". This means that fans will probably not have to wait too much longer to find out more details. Until then, the exciting question remains as to how big the new features are compared to Borderlands 3 or whether the differences are perhaps not as great as many expected. The only thing that is certain at the moment is that Borderlands 4 wants to correspond to the spirit of the times and shed old embarrassments.
