The announcement of Dragon Age: The Veilguard for PlayStation Plus has many players surprised - and annoyed. Especially those who have only bought the game in the last few days are now asking themselves: Can I get my money back?

Sony sometimes refunds - but not always

It's no secret that Sony offers refunds in certain cases when a game is added to PlayStation Plus shortly after purchase. Who Dragon Age: The Veilguard digitally from the PlayStation Store and has an active PS Plus subscription may be able to apply for a refund.

However, there are a few catches:

  • The window for a refund is extremely small - usually just a few days before the PlayStation Plus offer is announced.
  • Day One buyers are usually out of luck, as they have already played long enough to be excluded from Sony's return policy.
  • Anyone who has bought the game but not yet started it also has a good chance of receiving a refund.

To do this, the players should contact PlayStation Support and, if possible, speak to an agent in person, who often responds more intelligibly than the chatbot.

And what about disc buyers?

Physical buyers traditionally have the worst cards. A refund may be possible here if the game is still in its original packaging and the retailer allows a return as a gesture of goodwill. Sony itself does not offer refunds for disc versions. Here too, the purchase should not have been made too long ago.

That Dragon Age: The Veilguard quickly lands in PlayStation Plus is no coincidence. The game has sold anything but sliced bread - but publishers and developers know that they can save sales with additional distribution channels. Placement in the subscription service secures further revenue and attracts new players.

Whether a refund is possible depends on several factors. Digital buyers with little or no playing time should definitely try. Anyone who owns a disc version will have to hope for goodwill from the retailer. The risk of a game ending up on PlayStation Plus a few months after release after a potential failure is always greater for buyers - and with it the frustration. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a fairly classic example and not the first of its kind.
