After years of memes, mods and melancholy music from the soundtrack, the time has finally come: The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion returns - officially, spruced up and apparently ready to take us back to the fantasy world of Cyrodiil.

The unveiling of the remaster will take place on Tuesday, Tuesday April 22, at 17:00 CESTlive on Bethesda's YouTube and Twitch channels. And yes - according to some sources, the game could even be released on the same day thanks to Shadow Drop. This means that initially all hopes dashedthat this will happen today, Monday.

What initially began as a rumor in dark corners of the internet was dramatically fueled by leaked screenshots and marketing materials. The leak came from the website of studio Virtuos, which is working on the remaster together with Bethesda Dallas and Bethesda Rockville. Virtuos is no stranger to remastering - they have already worked on high-profile games such as Dark Souls, Uncharted and the coming Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake contributed.

Why Oblivion Remastered is more than just nostalgia

The Oblivion Remastered promises not only a graphical makeover, but also gameplay optimizations that should make the aging original more accessible and contemporary. This will be particularly exciting for console gamers, as the remaster will be released for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S - including Game Pass.

A treat for collectors: according to the leak, there will also be a Deluxe Edition will be available. Included: exclusive weapons, in-game bonuses and - of course - the legendary horse armor, which was once ridiculed as overpriced DLC and now enjoys cult status. Irony or clever self-irony? Bethesda seems to know how to poke fun at itself.

Waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6

It's no coincidence that the announcement comes now: While fans impatiently await The Elder Scrolls VI With the release of Oblivion still years away, a high-quality remaster is a smart move. It brings nostalgia, fresh gameplay and the chance to experience one of the most popular fantasy worlds again - this time in 4K, with sharper textures and (hopefully) fewer bugs.

Only one question remains: how many hours of our lives are we prepared to lose in Oblivion this time?
