Ubisoft's latest offshoot of the Assassin's Creed-series, Assassin's Creed ShadowsThe PS5 Pro is celebrating a brilliant start, reaching the impressive mark of 1 million players on the very first day. Ubisoft is taking this as an opportunity to offer PS5 Pro owners the prospect of another one.

The official X-side of the game announced this good news: "It's not even 4pm here in Canada and Assassin's Creed Shadows has already passed the 1 million player mark!" These impressive figures show that the anticipation for the game was enormous and that the community appreciates the efforts of the developers.

The game, which takes you to feudal Japan in the 16th century, offers an open world with dynamic seasons and reactive environments. Players experience the story from the perspective of Yasuke, a samurai, and Naoe, an assassin pursuing her own revenge. The world of Assassin's Creed Shadows is one of the most atmospheric and detailed Ubisoft has ever created, utilizing state-of-the-art technology to deliver an immersive experience.

These impressions are also reflected in our review according to which Assassin's Creed Shadows is one of the most beautiful games of this generation.

PS5 Pro upgrade: Ubisoft is far from finished

Especially Assassin's Creed Shadows cuts a fine figure on the PS5 Pro. Ubisoft has made special optimizations to take full advantage of the improved hardware. Initial reviews highlighted the impressive technical improvements and described the game as an "impressive PS5 Pro upgrade".

The dynamic wind and particle systems, which bring the world to life, as well as the advanced ray tracing effects and virtualized geometries stand out in particular. These improvements ensure that Assassin's Creed Shadows shines in a whole new quality on the PS5 Pro.

Ubisoft dispenses with Sony's PSSR

However, one curious detail is causing discussion: Despite the notable optimizations, the PS5 Pro's graphics modes lack an implementation of PSSR upscaling technology, which was developed specifically for Sony's console. Ubisoft had previously hinted at using PSSR in press materials, but Digital Foundry noted that this technology is not currently in use. Nicolas Lopez, technical architect of Assassin's Creed Shadows, reacted in response to questions from a fan on X with a meaningful "I'll keep at it".

This reaction suggests that Ubisoft could add the PSSR implementation in the future. An insider with knowledge of gaming technology speculates that machine learning technology could be included in an upcoming patch to further improve upscaling quality on the PS5 Pro. Sony itself has spoken of significant upgrades, but these will not be implemented until 2026 and will be based on AMD's FSR 4 technologies are based on.

Should Ubisoft dare to take this step, it would Assassin's Creed Shadows to exploit the full potential of the new hardware and become one of the most technically advanced games of this generation. Until then, it remains to be seen how Ubisoft will react to the community's feedback and whether a corresponding update will be released in the near future.
