Sony has shown its generosity by offering PlayStation Plus subscribers five days of additional running time - A nice gesture, but with potentially unexpected consequences. Anyone who has benefited from Black Friday offers in previous years will be delighted. However, the extension could prove to be a stumbling block, especially for late bargain hunters.
After all these years and the reliable Black Friday deals, many gamers have strategically timed their PlayStation Plus subscription - from Black Friday to Black Friday. A clever savings strategy, especially for those who got in early. But those who took advantage of the offer just in time could end up looking foolish this year. A consideration that will certainly not have simply passed Sony by.
Why are the 5 free days a problem?
Traditionally, the PlayStation Black Friday sale starts a few days before the actual Black Friday. 2024 this fell on the November 29, 2025 is the November 28. Many players use this period to extend or upgrade their PlayStation Plus membership with substantial discounts.
However, thanks to the current compensation, many subscriptions are now running five days later than originally planned. Anyone who bought early last year should have no problem: Your subscription still ends just in time for the new Black Friday offer.
The situation is different for those who only renewed their membership in the last few days of the promotion. Due to the additional days, their subscription could only expire after this year's discounts have expired - and thus a favorable renewal could be a long way off. The cut-off date would probably be October 27, 2025. The strategy that has been painstakingly built up over the past few years would suddenly be gone.
Bad luck for latecomers?
If Sony maintains the same discount conditions as in previous years, late Black Friday shoppers will have a problem. Because PlayStation Plus cannot be extended retroactively, but only if the current subscription is still active or has expired. In the worst case, a subscription that ends just a few days after the sale means no more discount.
What to do?
It remains to be seen whether Sony will offer a flexible solution here. If not, there are only two options for affected players:
- Accept a more expensive standard price and extend without discount.
- Hoping for other salesaround Christmas, Easter or spontaneous actions like the last one.
Ultimately, the compensation remains a double-edged sword: five days free now, perhaps paying extra later. So anyone speculating on the next Black Friday should keep a close eye on their subscription data - or throw a few controllers against the wall in frustration. This idea is still purely theoretical, but not entirely far-fetched.
