Sony has quietly and secretly released new features for the PS5 that should please fans of visual variety: Animated backgrounds for the Welcome Hub of the console. More and more players are currently receiving a system notification informing them of the small but significant update without any great fanfare or prior announcement.
The special thing about it is that it is not a classic Firmware updatebut a separate system function update that is activated automatically - without any additional download. If you want to check whether the new backgrounds are already available, simply open the Welcome Hub, select the "Backgrounds" tab and look under "Games".
These games get animated backgrounds
Included are animated motifs for some of the most popular PlayStation titles of recent years: God of War Ragnarok, Ghost of Tsushima, Demon's Souls, Horizon, Days Gone Remastered and the coming Ghost of Yotei. There was already a single animated theme with Astro Bot - the current update significantly expands the selection.
The backgrounds bring a breath of fresh air to the home screen and are somewhat reminiscent of the dynamic designs of the PS4 era, which are still popular with many players today. It remains a purely cosmetic feature, but one that shows that Sony is continuing to work on adding new features to the PS5 user interface.
Small updates, big impact - but where are the anniversary themes?
The question of when - or if - the announced 30th anniversary themes for the PS5 will return is still open. Sony announced these some time ago promisedafter many fans had wished for the return of the classic PS1, PS2 and PS3 themes. So far, however, there has been no official update on this.
Nevertheless, the latest update has met with a positive response: it is a small but noticeable step towards a more personalized PS5 experience - and who knows, maybe this is just the beginning.
