Bethesda could be about to spring a big surprise for Starfield-fans. Whether this is a PS5 version of the space RPG or the next expansion remains unclear, although not unlikely - but the silence is likely to be broken soon.
The wait is (almost) over
After the mixed Shattered Space and the last major update in November, Starfield has been suspiciously quiet. Since then, Bethesda has only added minor creations and proudly announced the 15 million player mark. But now there are increasing indications that an official announcement is due as early as next week - coincidentally with the speculated state of play?
The well-known leaker Odahfield - which has already closed the publication window of Shattered Space correctly predicted - claims that there will soon be news about Starfield. However, it is "not the one you expect". This leaves room for speculation:
- The unveiling of Starborn - the long-rumored second expansion, which is expected to be released in 2025.
- The announcement of a PlayStation 5 version - a real cracker, but not so far-fetched after the recent reports of a possible Switch 2 version.
Microsoft opens the floodgates for PS5?
The rumors about a PS5 version seem particularly plausible because Microsoft is currently pursuing a new strategy. In the last few weeks Forza Horizon 5, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition and Age of Mythology: Retold confirmed for the PlayStation 5. One Starfield-porting could therefore be part of this wave.
It is possible that the announcement coincides with the next State of Play, which, according to speculation, will also take place next week - presumably on February 14 - should take place.
Whether Starfield will actually make the leap to PS5 or whether fans' hopes will be dashed remains to be seen. One thing is certain: next week could be exciting.
