Ubisoft has big plans for the Assassin's Creed-series, but those who had hoped that after the freshly released Assassin's Creed Shadows directly the gloomy realization Assassin's Creed Witch is likely to be disappointed. According to a well-known gaming insider, the mysterious Hexe will probably not be released until 2027. This would be the next potential next-gen release for PS6.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake and Invictus first
The late release is due to delays in the Assassin's Creed Shadowswhich have thrown the entire release schedule into disarray.
Like Tom Henderson reportedbefore Witch two other projects will also see the light of day: The game running under the code name "Obsidian". Remake of Assassin's Creed Black Flag and the multiplayer project "Invictus". Both are to be released on Ubisoft's "Infinity" platform and Assassin's Creed Witch move backwards in the sequence.
This confirms what many had already suspected: Ubisoft is relying on a broad Assassin's Creed-strategy and would like to cater to different types of players before starting the presumably experimental Witch continues. Especially the Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remake could fans of the classic Assassin's Creed-games and bring a breath of fresh air to open-world pirate action.
Why does Hexe take so long?
The delay of Assassin's Creed Shadows has apparently triggered a chain reaction. According to Henderson, it is not clear when exactly Assassin's Creed Witch will appear, but due to the postponement of Assassin's Creed Shadows everything has been pushed back. He speculates that 2027 could be a realistic release year.
But why exactly Witch? It is reasonable to assume that Ubisoft is using the title try something completely new wants. The first teaser hinted at a dark, witch-hunt-inspired setting - a stark contrast to the previous ones Assassin's Creed-worlds. Such an ambitious project takes time.
Anyone impatient for Assassin's Creed Witch will have to be patient. But there is some consolation: the Black Flag remake could sweeten the wait, and with Invictus Ubisoft is bringing back a multiplayer game for the first time in years.
Ubisoft's strategy is obvious: instead of releasing one big single-player title after another, Assassin's Creed is to be positioned as broadly as possible as a brand. This may not appeal to everyone, but Assassin's Creed Witch has the potential to be a real highlight - even if it doesn't appear until 2027.
